LELAND — Robert “Butch” Lewis Lovingood, 78, of Winnabow, North Carolina, passed away on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, surrounded by his loving family.
Butch was a humble man but proud to be a Christian and servant of his Savior, Jesus Christ.
Butch was born in Charlotte, North Carolina, the son of William “Bill” Richard Lovingood and Vivian Voss Thomas Lovingood.
Butch married Mattie Jane Reece, on May 29, 1966, in York, South Carolina, and they just celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary. Butch served in the US Army during the Vietnam War era and was honorably discharged in 1968. Upon his return to the States, he worked as a long-haul truck driver for over 40 years.
Butch is survived by his loving wife, Jane, as well as his two sons, Robert L. “Bobby” Lovingood, Jr. (wife, Connie) and Brian Keith Lovingood (wife, Lorie). Brothers, Richard “Dickie” Lovingood (wife, Peggy) of Stanley, NC, and Tom Lovingood (wife, Dianne) of Ocean Isle Beach, NC. They also have six grandchildren: Victoria Lovingood Ford (husband, Gray), Bree Vestrand (husband, Austin), Noah McQuade, Kara Fields, Alex Fields, and Brianna Lovingood. They also have five great-grandchildren: Luke Vestrand, Adalyn Jane Vestrand, Cole Vestrand, Ella McQuade, and Alaya Fields.
Butch was preceded in death by his mother and father, as well as his sister, Linda Lovingood Beatty.
Visitation with family and friends will be held at Lighthouse Independent Baptist Church, 1450 Old Ocean Hwy, Bolivia, NC 28422 on Saturday, August 3, 2024, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Celebration of Life Service with Military Honors to follow at 4 p.m.
