LELAND — David Leonard Horrell, age 90, of Leland passed away gently on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, at Lower Cape Fear LifeCare in Wilmington.
He was born September 8, 1933, in Sampson County, the son of Raeford Horrell and Nellie Cashwell Horrell. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Geneva Robinson Horrell; sisters, Mary Whitley and Nell Hackney; and brothers, Carl Horrell and Raeford Charles Horrell.
Leonard is survived by his daughter, Wendy Beistel and her husband, Shawn; sister, Louene Sumner; and many nieces and nephews.
He was a dedicated worker and retired from International Paper after working for many years.
Leonard loved being outdoors in God’s wonderful world of nature. In years past he was an avid hunter. He was the most devoted husband and caring daddy anyone could ask for. He was a man of honor and was always thoughtful of others.
The funeral service will be 1 p.m. Thursday, August 1, 2024, at Quinn McGowen Funeral Home Burgaw Chapel with The Rev. Merrell McKoy conducting the service. The family will receive friends following the service.
Leonard will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife, Geneva, at Garden of Memories Cemetery with a private burial.
