WILMINGTON — It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Penny Louise Long, a beloved wife, devoted mother, cherished grandmother, and adored great-grandmother, who peacefully departed this life at the age of 94. She leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and cherished memories.
Born August 19, 1929, Penny lived a life filled with joy, laughter, and an abundance of love. She was a beacon of light in the lives of all who knew her, touching hearts with her warm smile and gentle spirit.
As a devoted wife, Penny shared a deep and enduring love with her husband, creating a bond that stood the test of time. Together, they navigated life’s journey hand in hand, sharing countless treasured moments and building a foundation of love and mutual respect.
As a mother, Penny was the epitome of unconditional love and selflessness. She devoted herself wholeheartedly to her three children, guiding them with wisdom, patience, and boundless love. Her nurturing presence and unwavering support were a source of strength and comfort throughout their lives.
In her role as a grandmother, Penny delighted in showering her granddaughters with love and affection. She cherished every moment spent with them, creating precious memories that will be cherished forever. Her love knew no bounds, and she embraced her role as a grandmother with joy and enthusiasm.
As a great-grandmother, Penny found immense joy and fulfillment in the laughter and energy of her five great-grandchildren. She delighted in watching them grow and thrive, and her love for them knew no bounds. She leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion that will be treasured by her family for generations to come.
Penny had a passion for singing, and her melodious voice brought joy to all who had the pleasure of hearing it. She also had a green thumb and found solace and beauty intending to her beloved flowers. Her home was always filled with the aroma of freshly baked goods, a testament to her love of baking and nurturing others with her homemade treats.
Though she may be gone from our sight, Penny’s spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her. Her legacy of love, kindness, and compassion will continue to inspire and uplift us for years to come. She is survived by her husband Charles Long, her daughter Pamela Jay Longsmith and son John Long, granddaughters Tiffany and Jill and great-grandchildren Jayden, Reese, Amelia, Jack and Luca.
A celebration of Penny’s life will be held on Wednesday, July 24, 2024 at 9:30 a.m. at Oakdale Cemetery in Wilmington, NC.
