SOUTHPORT — Michael Shawn Ward, born on December 11, 1950, in Washington, DC, passed away peacefully on July 20, 2024, in Southport, NC, at the age of 73.
Michael dedicated his professional life to system programming before retiring. He also served his country with honor as a United States Navy veteran aboard the USS Forrestal Aircraft Carrier. His commitment to service and excellence was evident in all aspects of his career and personal life.
A man of many passions, Michael loved hunting and fishing with his son and brother-in-law, cherishing the quiet moments spent in nature. Above all, he was a devoted family man who found immense joy in being a great husband, brother, and grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar (Bob) Ward and Dorothy Elizabeth Stockman Ward, and his sister, Marsha Ann Ehrlich. Michael is survived by his loving wife, Patricia Ward; his son, Scott Ward; his sister and brother-in-law, Michelle Summers and Jim Summers; two stepchildren, Kristin Shifflett and Michael Medvetz; and four cherished grandchildren, Shawn Ward, Ryder Ward, Summer Medvetz, and Zack Medvetz.
A service to honor Michael’s life will be held later by the family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to your favorite organization in memory of Michael Ward.
