WILMINGTON — Alma Stinson Harris, affectionately known as Alma, passed away peacefully on Thursday July 18, 2024, in Wilmington, NC, at the age of 98. Born on June 7, 1926, in Rocky Mount, NC, Alma lived a life full of love, dedication, and service.
After completing high school, Alma embarked on a career as an assistant to several oral surgeons, where she made significant contributions through her diligent work and compassionate care. Alma was a devoted member of the First Presbyterian Church in Rocky Mount. She served her church community faithfully as an Elder, Sunday School teacher, and active participant in the women’s church circle.
In her later years, Alma and her beloved husband, Tom Harris, Sr., moved to Wilmington. They enjoyed their time living mostly independently with the loving support of their son, Tom Jr., and his wife, Jonnie.
Alma cherished her family deeply. She found great joy in spending time at the beach, painting, reading, and watching Hallmark movies. Her warm and nurturing spirit will be dearly remembered by all who knew her.
Alma was preceded in death by her parents, Roy Elliott Stinson and Annie Williams Stinson; her husband, Tom Harris, Sr.; and her sister, Anne Coghill.
She leaves behind a legacy of love through her surviving family: her son, Tom Harris, Jr., and his wife, Jonnie of Wilmington; her daughter, Lynn Harris of Greenville; her grandchildren, Christy Lee Botros, T. Harris, Hayes Lee McCaffrey, and Phillip Lee; and her great-grandchildren, Harrison Botros, Tucker Botros, Hunter Harris, Anna Lee Botros, Blake Harris, Harper McCaffrey, and Colin McCaffrey.
A service to honor and remember Alma will be held at the Mausoleum Chapel at Rocky Mount Memorial Park on Sunday, July 28, 2024, at 2 p.m.
Her family and friends will forever hold her memory in their hearts, cherishing the moments spent with a wonderful woman who lived her life with grace, kindness, and unwavering faith.
