WILMINGTON — Elwood Kirwin Stroud, age 84, of Wilmington, NC, passed away peacefully on July 2, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on May 25, 1940, in Kenansville, NC, Elwood lived a life marked by dedication, hard work, and love for his family.

Elwood began his career with Babcock & Wilcox Boiler Manufacturing in 1965, where his talent and leadership soon saw him ascend to the position of Plant Manager. In 1982, he took a leap of faith and joined forces with the Trask family at A&M Company. His entrepreneurial spirit shone brightly in 1987 when he founded Powerhouse Maintenance & Construction, Inc., a company that became a leader in power plant facility maintenance on the east coast. Elwood served as its president until his retirement in 2008, leaving behind a legacy of excellence and innovation.

His service to his country began in 1958, when he joined the Army, and he proudly received his honorable discharge from the reserves in 1966.

Elwood was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Iris Benton Stroud; his sister, Linda Evans of Greenville, NC; and his brother, Lynwood Moore of Wilmington, NC. He leaves behind a loving family, including his sons, Michael, Donald, and Jim (Deborah); his grandson, Alex; and numerous nieces and nephews who will miss him dearly.

A graveside service with military honors will be held on July 5th, 2024, at Greenlawn Memorial Park located at 1311 Shipyard Blvd, Wilmington, NC 28412, starting at 12:00 PM.
