David P. Turner, 80

David P. Turner (Andrews Mortuary and Crematory)

WILMINGTON — David P. Turner, age 80, of Wilmington, North Carolina passed away peacefully at his residence just the way he wanted.

David is proceeded in death by his parents Carl and Agnes Turner, brother Carl Jr., and sisters Donna and Cora Sue.

In his younger years, David worked on a horse farm which formed his love for horses. He also had an interest in cars and frequently went fishing. David was incredibly talented in the carpentering industry. Always actively perfecting his trade and love for working with his hands, he became a retired union carpenter with many projects in both residences and commercial settings.

After a lifetime of hard work, David had the opportunity to flourish the rest of life in independent living where he enjoyed mingling with fellow residents, calling bingo, participating in arts and crafts, and having weekly restaurant trips. David was known as a social butterfly, jokester, and forever flirt. He enjoyed nature, gardening and flowering, good food, and had a crazy sweet tooth like his mom. He had love for God with a respectable fear as he attended service at Life Point Church.

He was a remarkable and devoted father, grandfather, and great grandfather. The last years of his life were the greatest gift to his family. People will remember David as a generous, hardworking man, who absolutely adored his family, and always trying to get a chuckle out of someone. His favorite sayings were “later gator” and “deal Lucille.”

He is survived by brothers Ken (Charlotte) and Wayne (Karen), a sister Dolores, lifelong sister-in-law Angie, and his four daughters Peggy (Dave), Tracie, Becky (Lester), and Suzanna (Charles). Along with his 13 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of Lower Cape Fear Life Care Foundation, 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28401 or online at lifecare.org.

Interment is private.
