SUNSET BEACH — Timothy “Tim” Julius Jernigan, 67, of Sunset Beach, NC passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 15, 2024 in the Lower Cape Fear LifeCare, “Brunswick House”. He fought a long and courageous battle after multiple surgeries and infections.
Tim was born in Lumberton, NC on June 24, 1956, he was one of four children born to the late Cedric Clifton Jernigan, Sr., and Betty Jean Barresi Jernigan. In addition to his parents, Tim was preceded in death by a son, Timothy “Jake” Jernigan and their beloved dog “Prometheus”.
Tim was a graduate of Bartlett Yancey High School and spoke often of his “glory days” playing basketball there. Tim was a floor leader and a captain for the very successful BY HS basketball teams in 1972-73 and 1973-74 when they competed for the Mid-State 3A Conference Championships. He later earned a Business Degree from Elon University. He was parts and service manager at Cole Chevrolet/Oldsmobile Dealership in Yanceyville, NC for many years before moving to Southern Shores, NC where he owned and operated a successful Landscaping business and a Homemade Ice Cream shop at Jockey’s Ridge State Park in Nags Head, NC. His family later moved to Sunset Beach, NC where he owned and operated “Tim’s Bagels” making the top rated Bagels in the state before retiring in 2021. He was loved by all who knew his generous and fun loving spirit. Tim enjoyed playing basketball and rugby, and fishing and crabbing with his sons and friends.
Surviving are his loving wife of 39 years, Catherine Rogers Jernigan; a son, Robert Trent Jernigan of Cary, NC; a brother, Cedric Clifton Jernigan, Jr. of Southern Shores, NC; two sisters, Faye McDaniel and husband Steve of Graham, NC, Leigh Boyd and husband Doug of Winterville, NC; nieces, Emily, Caitlyn, Carly, and Kennedi; nephews, Ric, Keaton, James, Cole, Bruce and Jason, and a grandson, Dominic Jax Jernigan.
A Celebration of Life is being planned and will be announced here at a later date.
