WILMINGTON — Jacqueline Melind, 82, of Wilmington, NC, passed away on Sunday, May 26th.

Jackie, as she was known to family and friends, was born on April 1st, 1942, in Evansville, Indiana, to Joiner McCutchen and Louise Helm.

Surviving her are her husband of 62 years, Jay Melind, son, Jason Melind (Mandy), and daughters Jeme’ Avent (Thad) and Jodi Melind (Mary). She also survived by four grandchildren Elliott, Bleu, Maya, and Hutch.

Jackie and Jay met while attending Bradley University, then moved to the Chicago area where she raised her family and owned a travel agency. Traveling and adventure was a lifelong love. Jackie had visited several countries and every continent in the world, including Antarctica.

Jackie and Jay retired to Wilmington in 1995, and their children soon followed. They lived in Porters Neck for 25 years, where she enjoyed playing golf, creating wonderful family memories, and spending time with great friends and neighbors. She described these years as being her happiest!

Jackie volunteered with the Guardian Ad Litem program for several years where she was an advocate for children. She later volunteered at The Assistance League Consignment Store, where she was also their best customer!

Jackie will be missed for her big smile, gentle demeanor, and wonderful sense of humor! We love you, mom, and will miss you always!

We want express immense gratitude to the staff at Cornelius Davis for the support they provided to our family, but mostly for the love and care of our mother in her remaining weeks.
