WILMINGTON — James Richard “Rick” Beyersdorf passed away peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, May 2, at the age of 62.
His family and friends will always remember his outgoing and fun-loving manner. Rick accepted Christ and was baptized in 2000. He truly loved the Lord and often shared the gospel with people he met. In 2001 he worked with a mission team from Vineyard Community Church on a trip to Brazil.
His pride and joy was his son Benjamin born in 2002. He loved Ben dearly. They were always very close, went camping together, talked often, with Rick sharing lessons from his own life experiences. Rick also got Ben hired to work alongside him on construction jobs to be near him and teach him career skills.
Rick is survived by his son, Benjamin Beyersdorf of Wilmington, a daughter, Ashley Kilbourn of Florida, his stepmother Martha Beyersdorf of Vermont, his sister Sandy Mello of California, four nieces and nephews, and two grandchildren. He was predeceased by his father James B. Beyersdorf, his mother Jeanne M. (Reed) of Jacksonville, and by his younger brother Billy, also of Jacksonville.
A memorial service will be held at Long Leaf Park at 314 Pine Grove Drive, Wilmington, NC on Saturday, May 18 at 11 a.m. Family and friends may gather near the pond at the park.
