WILMINGTON — Elizabeth Byrd Zachary, affectionately known as Libby, passed away peacefully at her home in Wilmington, NC on April 14, 2024. Libby was born on February 19, 1950, to the late Ebron Brantley and Mae Celeste Byrd (née Hester).
She is survived by her three devoted sons, Billy Zachary, John Zachary (Allie) and their children Piper and Banks, and Chris Zachary (Bee) and their children Evie, Emily, and Pierce. Elizabeth also leaves behind her cherished sister, Mary (Tish) Hatley, whose bond was unbreakable, and many other extended family members in Charlotte, St. Louis, and California.
In addition to the aforementioned, Libby is preceded in death by her sister Judy Thomas and her two brothers, Bill and Skip Byrd.
Libby’s life was defined by her unwavering devotion to her family and friends, and her compassionate nature, which touched the lives of all who knew her. She will be remembered for her kind heart, gentle spirit, and selfless dedication to those around her.
Her legacy lives on in the hearts of her family and friends, who find solace in the countless memories of her warmth and love. Libby’s presence will be deeply missed, but her spirit will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to have known her.
A celebration of Libby’s life will be held at a later date.
