LELAND — George Lewis Green died peacefully at his home on April 5, 2024. Born May 7, 1945 in the Bronx, NY, he was a husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to many.
Married for 50 years, George is survived by his wife, Arlene Green, his daughter Amy Green, son Erik Green and his wife Kristina Green, grandchildren Logan, Elise, and Kara Green, and his brother Stephen Green, cousins and many friends.
After spending 60 years as a business executive in the electronics field, George retired in 2014, and moved from New York to North Carolina. George was politically active throughout his life, serving as a Councilman and Police Commissioner for the Town of Wallkill in New York. He ran several political campaigns and was active on a national level under the Reagan administration. Most recently, George served his local community on the HOA board in Brunswick Forest.
George was very active in his church, serving on the parish council and serving as a Eucharistic Minister at Our Lady of Assumption Church, in Bloomingburg, NY.
An avid hunter, George loved spending time in the woods and looked forward to his many hunting trips with friends. George always found time to support his children in all of their endeavors, including sports, theater, art, education, career and anything that was important to them. Spending time with his grandchildren was important to George, and he spent the week before his death visiting with them.
Anyone who met George, loved George. He was often the center of attention at parties, captivating everyone with his exciting stories about his adventures and political involvement. Some of his favorite stories were about the time he spent at the White House and meeting President Reagan.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 11, at Wilmington Funeral & Cremation – Leland Chapel, 525 Village Road, Leland, NC 28451.
