WILMINGTON — Douglas Lynn Mangum, known to his loved ones as Doug, was born on August 25, 1943, in Wilmington, NC. He peacefully passed away at his residence on March 17, 2024. Doug was 80 years old at the time of his passing.
Doug dedicated 30 years of his life to working in Waste Management with the City of Wilmington. He found joy in the simple pleasures of life, cherishing his role as a beloved, loving, gentle soul and a kind husband, father, and grandfather. One of his favorite pastimes was sitting on his front porch, admiring the beauty of nature and watching the birds.
Throughout his life, Doug was a member of the Winter Park Volunteer Fire Department, where he served his community with dedication and commitment. His warm presence and caring nature will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Doug is preceded in death by his parents, John William Mangum, Sr. and Bertice Lorraine King Mangum. He is survived by his devoted wife, Martha Mangum, his daughter Eva Mangum Johnson, his brother John William Mangum, III, his grandchildren Gregory Johnson, Jr., Katherine Wessel, Lorrane Southern, and Eliza Hunsaker, as well as his five great-grandchildren: A. J., Alayna, Ava, Rose, and Joshua.
