WILMINGTON — Kenneth Fletcher Anderson Jr. passed away on March 10th, in Wilmington, NC. Ken was born on March 29th, 1932, in Wilmington, NC to the late Lucille Clark Anderson and late Kenneth Fletcher Anderson Sr.

While Ken was born in Wilmington, he spent most of his youth in Kinston before attending UNC Chapel Hill in 1952. While at UNC, Ken was an active contributor to the Daily Tar Heel and a member of Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity.

Upon graduation, he joined the Marines in 1956 and was honorably discharged in 1959 as a 1st Lieutenant. Following the Marines, Ken moved to New York City where he worked for several major textile firms before buying Lincoln Textile Products and launching Kensington Home Fashions in 1981.

Ken fell in love with his beloved wife, Thelma Margaret Anderson of Datchet, England. Kenneth and Thelma raised their family in Connecticut. After Thelma’s passing, he headed back to Wilmington, North Carolina to a dream home they built together. Ken met his partner, also predeceased, Gayle Maffeo of Los Angeles, CA. Ken was thankful for having found two great loves.

The eldest of four brothers, he was predeceased by Jim Anderson of Southern Pines. He is survived by brothers Wayne Anderson of Swansboro and Gene Anderson of Wilmington. Ken is also survived by his son Phillip Anderson and wife Jessica Anderson of Park City, UT; daughter Claire Londa and husband Peter Londa of Rowayton, CT; and grandchildren Lane Anderson, Ashley Anderson, Liv Londa and Fletcher Londa.

Ken was a wonderful storyteller who listened just as eagerly. He had a passion for reading and music, especially Jazz. He loved golf at The Landfall Club and time at The Surf Club. He loved time with his wonderful friends both old and new, and spent lots of time with his children and grandchildren. He lived a very rich life filled with love and was always grateful for his beautiful journey. All will miss him terribly and will be comforted by his love eternally.

A memorial service celebrating Ken’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 30, 2024, at Kenan Chapel in Landfall. In lieu of flowers Ken’s family ask that you help support Lincoln Center in New York City.
