WILMINGTON — After ninety blessed years and a short illness, Nora Lee Brown Bednarczyk left this world on March 9, 2024 to join her late husband, Milford Andrew Bednarczyk and her Lord.
Born at her home in Bolton, NC on July 28,1933 to Roland Lawrence and Lora Mae Bordeaux Brown, she lived a happy childhood working on a farm, learning to play piano and violin, and enjoying the company of family. As an adult, she remained an active leader in her career and in her church. Her high school yearbook foretold her future achievements as she was in the Glee Club, FHA, Beta Club, Pep Club, Student Council Secretary, and voted the friendliest in her class.
After graduating from James Walker School of Nursing in Wilmington, NC and beginning her career as a nurse, Nora met her beloved Mil who was in the US Army and spent many years traveling with him, including a three-year deployment in Verdun, France. They finally settled in Wilmington NC where they purchased their first home close to her Columbus County roots. She is survived by her three children and their spouses, Karen and Dana Page, Wendy and Ben Bowie, and David and Kristin Bednarczyk, nine grandchildren and their spouses (Jennifer and Stephen Varnedoe, Candice Page, Ryan and Heather Bowie, Mason and Christa Bednarczyk, Stephanie Page, Tabitha and Chad Staradumsky, Jaqulin and Matt Knauss, Corbin and Ashley Bednarczyk, and Alex Page), thirteen great-grandchildren, and her sister Bonnie Brown Cooper Warwick. She was predeceased by her two sisters, Betty Brown Vincent and Faye Brown.
While raising her children, Nora continued her nursing career, specializing in Psychiatric nursing and, after being instrumental in its inception, retired as the Director of Nursing at The Oaks in Wilmington where there is a plaque placed in the Board Room in her honor.
After retirement, Nora and Mil enjoyed traveling the US in an RV with her late sister Betty Vincent and her husband. Their most memorable trip was to the Hawaiian Islands. She remained active in her church advocating for the homeless and the seniors and attending services and bible studies.
She will be remembered for her kindness and helpfulness and will be missed by all who were touched by her.
