WILMINGTON — Carol Simmons Batts, born on September 4, 1941, in Wilmington, North Carolina, peacefully passed away on March 10, 2024. She was 82 years old.
A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, Carol touched the lives of many with her kindness and love. She was a cherished member of the community and was actively involved in various organizations, including Ogden Baptist Church, Eastern Star, and Ladies of the Shrine. Carol graduated from New Hanover High School and valued the importance of education and faith throughout her life.
Carol is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 62 years, Blaney “Boo” William Batts, as well as her parents, Charles Rhett Simmons and Lucille Smith Simmons.
She is survived by her four children: Candy Batts Peterson (Allen), Patty Vernon (Mark), Blaney W. Batts, Jr., and Jonathan R. Batts (Katie). She will forever be cherished in the hearts of her grandchildren: Kayla Hewett, Katie Hewett, Jayden Peterson, Landon Batts, Maddoux Batts, Mia James Casteen, Ella Batts, Chase Dubel, Hadden Dubel (Lydia), and Olivia “Livi” Dubel; Carol’s great-grandchildren: Karter, Adalee, and Malichi brought immeasurable joy to her life. Carol is also survived by her brother, Jackie Simmons (Mary).
Burial will be at Oleander Memorial Gardens.
