WILMINGTON — Tony Major Barney III, 49 of Wilmington, NC, formerly of Mocksville, NC passed away unexpectedly on February 15, 2024. Tony was born in Rockingham County, NC on April 6, 1974 to Tony Major Barney Jr and Pamela Curry Tickle.

Tony moved to Wilmington in 2015 and enjoyed the beach, fishing and a lifelong career of welding.

He graduated in 1992 from John M Morehead High School and spent his career working at Dwiggins Sheet Metal in Mocksville, NC and Watsons Welding in Wilmington, NC. Tony was a talented welder/fabricator and was loved by many people as he was not a stranger to anyone.

He is survived by his mother, Pamela Tickle of Eden, NC; a daughter, Kristian Nicole Barney of Winston-Salem, NC; four sisters, Crystal Blankenship (Roy) of Eden, NC, Angela Hall (Jeremy) of Advance, NC, Heather Howell (Trent) of Advance, NC and Stephanie Barney of Mocksville, NC; a granddaughter, Rayven Frost Barney of Greensboro, NC; two aunts Martha Johnson (Jim) of AL and Diane Barney Vogler of NC; two uncles, Ray Lewis (Pam) and Poet Lewis (Shelia) all of VA; grandmother, Francis Goins (Elmer) of Eden, NC and one niece, Destiny Johnson (Austin) of Tacoma, WA; five nephews, Bailey Hall, Branden Hall, and Cobie Howell of Advance, NC, Lane & Wesley Blankenship of Eden, NC; a special friend Lanny Warren (Jonas) of Clinton, NC.

Tony is preceded in death by his father, Tony Major Barney Jr; paternal grandparents JoAnn Allen and Tony Major Barney Sr; and an uncle, Richard E . Barney.

A graveside service will be conducted March 9, 2024 at 2 p.m. Davie Baptist Church, located 1489 Fork Bixby Rd., Advance, NC. The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall immediately following the service.
