BURGAW — Mary Bernice Wells Worrell, age 89 of Burgaw, passed peacefully into the arms of her Savior Saturday September 23, 2023 surrounded by her loving family.
She was born March 17, 1934 in Pender County, daughter of the late Thomas and Nora Wiley Wells. She was also predeceased by her husband, James Edward Worrell, son, Linwood Worrell, and daughter, Jo Ann Worrell, and sister, Shirley Montford.
She is survived by her son, Paul Worrell Sr. of Burgaw; daughter, Mary Riddle and husband Richard of Patterson GA; four grandchildren, Ronald Henderson, Regina Henderson, Vicky Worrell, and Paul Worrell Jr.; three great grandchildren; and four great- great grandchildren; sister Pearlene Wells of Burgaw; and dear friend Peggy Smith and late husband Bobby Smith.
Bernice was a Godly woman who prayed daily, studied the Bible, and did devotionals daily. She was a member of Castle Hayne Baptist Church for over 40 years. She loved to sing and would perform at nursing homes in three counties for over 13 years. Bernice enjoyed gardening and growing pretty flowers. She was a great cook and loved to cook for her family.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, September 27 at 10 a.m., one hour prior to the service, at Harrell’s Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, September 27, 2023 at Harrell’s Funeral Home Chapel. Reverend Billy Fowler and Reverend Greg Newton will officiate. Burial will follow at Pike Creek Cemetery.
