OAK ISLAND — Priscilla Ann Whirley Colby, age 84, formerly of Mansfield, MA, and Oak Island, NC, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 13, 2023, in the home of her oldest son, Brian.
Priscilla was born in Auburn, ME, on September 23, 1938, the oldest of three children to Ralph and Jeanette Whirley. She spent many summers with her grandmother on Westport Island, ME, where she met and danced with this young man Bud who would become her beloved husband of 64 years. They raised their family on Hall Street in Mansfield, MA, and made many lifelong friends there. She was a certified nurse’s aid and retired in 2004 from Country Haven Nursing Assisted Home in Norton, MA, and soon after moved to Oak Island, NC.
Priscilla was an excellent cook and a lifelong member of Weight Watchers. Upon retirement to Oak Island, she continued to go to Weight Watcher meetings and made many friends there. She loved going to the beach as long as she was able and had someone to set up an umbrella for her. She was also a member of Sacred Heart Parish in Southport, NC.
She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Robert Whirley, and husband Royden “Bud” Colby. She is survived by her sister Anita (Joe), sister-in-law Nancy Whirley, and her four children: Donna Morin (Ray) of Oak Island; Brian (Lei) of Whiteville, NC; Mark (Gina) of Whiteville, NC; and Kenneth (Lisa) of Shallotte, NC. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and many special nieces and nephews.
She dances now again with her beloved Bud.
