WILMINGTON — Gloria McKernan Brown, 84, of Wilmington, passed away Thursday, February 16, 2023.
She was born July 4, 1938, in LeRoy, NY, to the late James McKernan and Ruth Adams.
Gloria graduated from Notre Dame High School in LeRoy, NY in 1956 and graduated in 1959 from nursing school at Mercy Teaching Hospital in Buffalo, New York. She married Jerry in October 1961 and moved to Wilmington, NC in January 1969 where she became actively involved in St. Therese Catholic Church at Wrightsville Beach, NC before being a founding parishioner of St. Mark Catholic Church and their Ladies Guild.
Survivors include her husband, Jerome Brown; children, Jeffrey, Jennifer (Jason Harris), Julie (Stacey Gillis), and Joel; two grandsons, Jacob and Andrew Harris; and special long-time caregiver Patricia Giddings.
A Funeral Mass to be held on Thursday, February 23, 2023, at 11 a.m. at St. Mark Catholic Church 1013 Eastwood Road, Wilmington, NC

Gloria was the “neighborhood nurse” to neighbors, friends and children. As spouse, mother, nurse, co-worker, teacher and friend, she excelled at all of these. She loved unconditionally, was loved deeply, and will be tremendously missed.
