WILMINGTON — Doris Pait Skipper of Wilmington, NC passed away peacefully on Monday, August 22, 2022, at home with her son by her side. Doris was born on September 17, 1939, to the late Mary McKee and Eudell Bryant Pait of Bladen County.
Doris was a graduate of Clarkton High School. An active student, she was a star basketball player as well as the Homecoming Queen and a member of the Beta Club.
After marriage, she worked for the state of Alaska while her husband was in the service. Upon returning to Wilmington, NC she worked for Tidewater Gas Company and the University of NC at Wilmington.
Motherhood became Doris’s life on February 3, 1970. Along with carpooling and school activities, she enjoyed playing tennis with her best friend and bowling with a women’s league. In later years, she enjoyed working at Belk’s while enjoying the company of her nephew, Tim Pait, and her son, Pait Skipper. Being a member of the Elks Club of Wilmington, Doris enjoyed dancing and the camaraderie spent with close friends.
Doris’s love and passion was her family and friends. The love that she shared with them will be greatly missed. People were drawn to her because she listened and truly cared for them.
She is survived by one son, Larry Pait Skipper of Wilmington, NC; one nephew, George Tim Pait II of Charlotte, NC; sister-in-law, Celia F. Hayes of Garner, NC; and a special friend, Jerry Brim of Wilmington, NC.
The family wants to express their sincere appreciation and deepest gratitude to Cassandra Taylor and Margaret Nelson for their loving care and compassion extended to Doris.
A memorial service for Doris will be held on Thursday, August 25, 2022, at First Presbyterian Church, 125 S. 3rd Street, Wilmington, NC at 11:00 am. The service will be conducted by Rev. Diane Giannola and Rev. Barrett Ingram with visitation to follow in Gilmore Hall. A private family interment will conclude the service.
