WILMINGTON — Darry Ray Clark, age 75, of Wilmington, North Carolina passed away on Tuesday, June 28, 2022.
Darry was born September 20, 1946, in Wilmington, NC, son of the late William Lyon Clark & Rebecca Inez Tharp.
At 19 years old, Darry enlisted in the US Army for 22 years. During his active duty he was wounded in Vietnam and was awarded a Purple Heart for his sacrifice.
With his family beside him, he was stationed in Georgia, Kentucky, Oklahoma, Germany and Korea, later retiring at the rank of Staff Sergeant.
After retiring from the military, Darry began a career in security in Seattle, Washington. This lends to all of the stories you may have heard which include work on various movies, partying with Alabama on their tour bus, as well as some encounters with professional baseball players. “Sarge” never met a stranger and made friends with folks all over town, cracking beers and jokes at local watering holes such as Katy’s, The Harp and The Rusty Nail, The VFW.
He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Marilyn Lee Morris Clark and son, Scott Lee Clark . He is survived by his son, William Ray Clark of Wilmington, his daughter, Melinda Clark of Winnabow, his grandson, Austin Clark of Wilmington, NC, his granddaughter Melissa Murphy of Columbia SC, his grandson, Anthony Clark of Wilmington, and great-granddaughters, Frankie and Melody.
Plans are being made for a funeral service.
