WILMINGTON — John Robert Wells passed away on June 23, 2022, from complications of lung cancer and pneumonia.
John was born December 8, 1964, in Wilmington, NC to James Leroy Wells, Jr. and Beulah Johnson Kennedy Wells. An only child, John was preceded in death by his mother and father. As a child, he loved Wrightsville Beach, boating and fishing and attended First Presbyterian Church with his family. He maintained a life-long love of Wilmington and the rich history of the area.
John was a 1983 graduate of Cape Fear Academy. He attended UNC-W and St. Andrews Presbyterian College (now St. Andrews University). John received his baccalaureate degree from St. Andrews in 1987. John served as a district manager for Guess, a regional director at Sephora and community relations representative at the Wilmington Treatment Center. His jobs took him to Georgia, but John was able to return to North Carolina in 2019.
After being diagnosed with lung cancer, he became a favorite resident at the Woodbury Wellness Center in Hampstead, NC. The staff and residents became close friends and extended family. His favorite companions were Wilma Bishop, Arlene Whirley, Carol Ward and dear friend Helen Smith! Thanks to all of the employees at Woodbury, including the administrative, clinical, housekeeping and dietary staff, for providing such excellent care and support. We also extend our thanks to his final caregivers at the New Hanover Regional Medical Center and his last nurse, Hannah.
John leaves behind devoted friends that miss him tremendously. Deepest thanks to Elisabeth and Rolf Almekinder and Dawn and Kent Prevatte for their compassion, love and support.
At a later date, John will be interred at Oakdale Cemetery. This information will be posted on his Facebook page.
