Inza Gray Mayo Boone, 95

WILMINGTON — Inza Gray Mayo Boone, 95, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 19, 2022, at Springmoor Retirement Community in Raleigh, NC.  She was born on September 9, 1926, in Lucama, NC, Wilson County to the late Emma Rose Moore Mayo and Willie Henry Mayo.  She was the 13th of 14 children.

Inza graduated from the Roanoke Rapids Hospital, School of Nursing with a Gold Star on February 24, 1947. 

She married John Douglas Boone on July 22, 1948 at Rosemary Methodist Church in Roanoke Rapids, Halifax County, NC.

She pursued nursing as a career and as a volunteer throughout her life. By far, her greatest passion was her family, friends, and helping others. She actively participated in her children’s school activities, Wilmington Woman’s Club, Band Boosters, Girl Scouts, Square Dancing, and the Red Cross. She loved the N.C. State Wolfpack and had football season tickets for many years.

Inza is survived by her son Robert Douglas Boone and wife Rebekah Dough Boone, and daughter Diane Elizabeth Boone; grandchildren, Cheryl Elizabeth Boone Jones (Ryan Jones) and Amy Catherine Boone (Joe Chiodo); great-grandchildren, Caroline Hazel Jones and Cameron James Chiodo; and many special nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband John Douglas Boone, son John Fredrick Boone, her parents, and 13 brothers and sisters.  

A special thank you to the staff at Springmoor Retirement Center, Stewart Health Center, Transitions life Care (Hospice), and Zenawit Asfaw (her home care aid) for the compassionate care our mother has received over the past four to five years. 

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm, Thursday, May 12, 2022 at Oleander Memorial Gardens, located at 306 Bradley Drive, Wilmington, NC 28409.
