WILMINGTON — Judith “Judy” Axelberg Brown, age 78, of Wilmington, NC passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, February 24, 2022.
She was born on May 13, 1943 in Buffalo, NY to the late Melvin Axelberg and Lois Morrison Axelberg.
Judy loved her sons, Eric and Justin, and her husband of more than 59 years, Jay, very much. She thoroughly enjoyed being a grandmother to her four grandchildren. She was very close to her sister and brother though both lived in other towns. Judy was passionate about her church, First Baptist, where she was the church secretary for many years. She loved the beach and traveling throughout the U.S. Judy was an excellent cook and served many dinners at her home. In her early years, she was very active in several volunteer organizations, played tennis and participated in many clubs. Judy had an infectious laugh and her joyous personality will be missed by so many.
Judy is survived by her husband, Jay E. Brown; sons, Eric J. Brown and wife, Gayle, and Justin E. Brown and wife, Kristi; brother, Chris Axelberg and wife, Sharon; sister, Barbara Smith; grandchildren, Aden Brown, Emily Brown, Parker Brown, and Harper Brown; and many other nieces, nephews and family members.
A memorial service and inurnment at First Baptist Church will be held at a future date.
