Blake Hunter Weaks, 52

SURF CITY — Blake Hunter Weaks, age 52, of Surf City, NC passed away on Tuesday, February 8, 2022.  He was born on February 17, 1969, in Pitt County, NC to Chester Arthur Weaks, Jr. and Connie Ratledge Weaks.

Blake was a 1987 graduate of Cary High School in Cary North Carolina where he excelled in wrestling and football.  He was a 1993 graduate of North Carolina State University where he received two Bachelor of Arts degrees, one in Business Management, and one in Economics.  Blake loved the Wolfpack.

Blake worked for several businesses in North Carolina including, North Carolina Equipment Company, Mitchell Distributing Company, Gregory Poole, and Dollar General Stores.

Blake married Julie Smith in November of 1995.  They resided in Cary and then Smithfield, North Carolina.  Blake and Julie love dogs, among them were a Basset Hound named Winston, and recently a mixed breed named Dexter.  In recent years Blake stayed with his parents in Surf City, North Carolina.

Blake had a passion for dogs, Washington football, Huckleberry Finn, and his extended family.  Blake was an amateur writer who left behind an unfinished book based on Mark Twain’s characters Huck and Jim.

In 2017 Blake travelled with family members to Israel on an archaeological tour where he got to visit many locations throughout Israel and Jerusalem including the Temple Mount.  Blake was an ardent student of the Bible, and he loved his Savior, Jesus Christ.

In his writings Blake circled the last part of Psalm 23: “…and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever” and he wrote: “That’s the home we are yearning for, Jesus is the way.”

Blake loved his wife, family, friends, and animals.  He is gone too soon, and he will be sorely missed.

In addition to his parents, Blake is survived by his wife, Julie Smith Weaks; brother, James Arthur Weaks and wife, Wendy; nephews, Ryan Weaks and wife, Kirsten, Patrick Allen Smith, Adam Christopher Smith and wife Athena; nieces, Hannah Weaks, and Meghan Rose Smith; cousins, Patricia Ratledge Duff, Susan Ratledge Thomas, George Ratledge, Alesia Weaks Hughes, and Starr Lynn Godbey; and his beloved dog, Dexter.
