WILMINGTON — Joseph Lee Madry, born to Lonnie and Lilly C. Bell Madry of Wilmington, age 76, passed away on September 25, 2021 in Wilmington, North Carolina.
Joe, lovingly called Papa by many more than just his family, served 4 years in the Army where he was stationed in Vietnam. He later retired from PraxAir and its affiliates after 32 years of dedicated service. He also found a love with hobbies such as boating and fishing, becoming a private pilot for over 20 years, and conversating with the beachgoers as he sat on their back deck watching the waves.
Joe is survived by his wife of 52 years, Gail Ebbighausen Madry, and children; Theresa Arnett (Gary), and Michael and Kevin Madry. Papa was also survived by grandchildren Tony Arnett and Stephen Scott, Christopher and David Madry, and Jacob and Nikolas Madry; and great-grandchildren Dante and Samara Scott, Christian Madry, Lydia Arnett, Aubree and Hunter Madry, and David Jr. and Hudson Madry. Joe was predeceased by his great-grandson Hayden Cash Madry.
Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, October 9, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Andrews Mortuary Valley Chapel, 4108 S College Rd, Wilmington, NC, 28412, where the family will greet friends from 1:00 PM until the beginning of services. After the service, the family will receive guests for food and beverages at 701 Fort Fisher Blvd S, Kure Beach, NC, 28449.
