Sergeant First Class Gordon LeRoy Morey, 86

LELAND — Sergeant First Class Gordon LeRoy Morey passed away Sept 24th at the age of 86. Gordon was known by close friends and colleagues as Sgt Rock.

Born in Sandusky OH, he was preceded in death by his Father Frank, Mother Lenore and siblings George, Bob, Frank, and Clara.

Gordon served his Country as a US Marine, transitioning into the Army Special Forces. He Completed his 33 years of service retiring as a full-time member of the Army National Guard.

Gordon received many achievements and awards during his military career. One highlight of his career was receiving a letter from President Ronald Reagan in response to service performed by him and his son. Outside of his military career, he enjoyed fishing, participating in local parades, including the St. Patrick’s Day Parade where he was commonly referred to as Wilmington’s Leprechaun. He was a published poet and loved to spend time with his family leading the way in Easter Egg hunts and night time cuddles with his grandchildren.

Surviving are his loving wife Lynn J. Morey of the home, brother Dean Morey and his wife Christine, and a sister Mary Routon, a son, Retired Chief Warrant Officer 5, Gordon LeRoy Morey Jr., wife Beth; Daughter Christine Morey Pardue ,husband Matthew; Step Children Kevin Blake:  Ashley J Bailey, husband Jeff, Laurie English husband Terry. Grandchildren: Ian Morey, Wife Aly, Madison Morey, Kevin Blake Jr., Ashley Blake, Skylar English, and Cheyenne Spivey; 2 great grandchildren Marley Clifton and Emory Kelly and a close friend Major Wilbur D. Griffin.

A Celebration of Life service is being planned for the 10th of October 2021 @3pm. Location will be at 6898 Pinecliff Dr. Leland NC .
