WILMINGTON — William (Bill) Roland Greenwood, Jr. left this earthy existence for a heavenly place on September 18, 2021.
He is predeceased by his parents, Shirley Brown Greenwood and William Roland Greenwood, Sr; his loving mother-in law, Doris L Duclos; as well as his adored little sister, Antoinette Greenwood.
Bill is survived by his cherished wife and soulmate, Julie L Duclos-Greenwood; sister, Kimberly Jones (Scott); brother-in-law, Joseph Duclos (Rebecca); his children, Keith Greenwood, Kristin Holland, Susan Iglesias (Jorge), Julie Kaitlynne Bryan (Kevin Killory), Perry Fergus (Sherri), Haley Nepini (Dennis), Whitney Daughtry (Sam); beloved nieces and nephews; and three grandchildren.
Bill was an accomplished golfer, avid fisherman, and talented mariner. He dedicated his career to Duke Energy, beginning as a lineman and eventually becoming the Construction and Maintenance Area Supervisor for the southeast region. Keeping his linemen safe was his highest priority. He and his team won numerous International Lineman Rodeo Competitions and safety awards throughout his career. He loved his linemen as his own children and considered their families to be an extension of his own. Major storms were a challenge Bill excitedly embraced; he restored electrical power across the country in over 16 major storms. He eagerly answered the call to assist with returning the electrical power to Puerto Rico and spent four months away from home to help with rebuilding the Puerto Rican mountain community. He retired after contributing 48 years of service to Duke Energy.
The family offers special thanks to family and friends during his final days, it was a great comfort to us.
A graveside service will be held at 3pm Wednesday, September 22, 2021 in the Greenlawn Memorial Park family plot on Shipyard Blvd in Wilmington, North Carolina, officiated by Reverend Angela Walker. Prior to the service, the family will receive friends from 2:30pm until the service hour.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Bill may be made to a non-profit of one’s choice.
