WILMINGTON — Edmund E. Burke, 91, died Monday, July 12, 2021, at the New Hanover Regional Medical Center. He was born Nov. 22, 1929, in Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minn.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1949 to 1958 and saw action during the Korean War. He was a career employee with the U.S. Postal Service, retiring in 1986, and he continued to work as a contract STAR Route carrier until the early 1990s. An active parishioner at the Basilica Shrine of St. Mary, and a member of the Elks Club, he was admired for his BBQs and sought after for his skills on the dance floor.
He was preceded in death by Anne Rhodes Burke, Betty Riday and Patrick Lee Burke.
He is survived by his wife, Paula Faraday; stepbrother, Joe Shirmers of St. Cloud, Minn.; three children, James C. Burke, Edmund Robert Burke and Sharon Burke Bowen; four grandchildren, Katie Burke Craddock, Amanda Burke Wilson, Skylar Burke and Zhoie Burke; and four great-grandchildren, Liam Craddock, Cadin Wilson, Brayden Wilson and Zayden Wilson.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, July 16, at the Basilica Shrine of St. Mary, Wilmington. A reception will follow at the residence of Paula Faraday.
