WILMINGTON — Kathryn “Kathy” Miller Iandoli, 62, passed away peacefully into the arms of Jesus Thursday, June 10, 2021. After a prolonged battle with cancer, she is now fully healed. She was born Feb. 20, 1959, in Newport News, the eldest daughter of the Rev. Charles and Ruth Miller. Although she grew up in Wilmington, some of her most cherished childhood memories came from her summers spent back in Virginia with her “Grammy.”
She graduated from New Hanover High School and earned an Associate Degree in Voice from Peace College. She then graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Texas Christian University, where she met and married Louis, her husband of 40 years. Together, they raised and homeschooled six children in Fort Worth, Texas; Norwalk, Connecticut; and Wilmington.
She lived to serve others because of her love for Christ. She led numerous homeschool organizations and took great joy and pride in her commitment to Christian Home Educators of Wilmington (CHEW), for which she served as president for 27 years. Additionally, she served as a faithful board member and a regional director of the North Carolinians for Home Education (NCHE).
She held a deeply patriotic love for the United States and thoroughly enjoyed teaching and debating American history and politics. She lived with passion and a determined spirit to care for everyone around her. She took great pride and joy in caring for her family, which consisted of her children, several foster kids, her adopted daughter Abi, and nine grandchildren, who affectionately called her “Mimi.” As a mother, she faithfully cultivated her children’s talents and took great pride in their accomplishments.
She was preceded in death by her favorite “Grammy,” Helen Givens; and her father, Charles.
She is survived by her husband, Lou; children, Diana (Ben), David (Sarah), Amy, Stephen, Nathan and Matthew; grandchildren, Levi, Micah, Judah, Felicity, Seth, Bella, Gideon, Jacob and Faith, due in July; mother, Ruth Miller Ratliff and brothers, Thomas and Doug Miller.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 5 p.m., Wednesday, June 16, at Andrews Mortuary, 1617 Market St., Wilmington. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, June 17, at Scotts Hill Baptist Church, 185 Scotts Hill Loop Road. She will be laid to rest in Oakdale Cemetery.
