
WILMINGTON — George Richard Scott, known as “Junior” or “Scott,” 67, was called home Saturday, May 29, 2021, at Brunswick Cove Nursing Home. He was born June 18, 1953, in Wilmington, the second child of the late Richard Buster Scott and the late Areatha Everette.
He was the product of the New Hanover County School System, having graduated from Williston High School in Wilmington. He found work locally cutting grass and working odd jobs around town. George landed a steady job at a local factory located in Wilmington. He worked there until the factory shut down. Afterward, George managed to find work locally in order to earn a living.
As a young man, George was a member of St. Luke AME Zion Church. Later in life, he attended and joined St. Matthews Church of Leland. He was active in the church. George collected the offerings on Sunday, he was a choir member, and faithfully participated in the food distribution for the food bank.
George found a longtime companion in Veronica Halsey of Wilmington until her death in 2001. He often called her David his brother-in-law. George was an easygoing man who liked to laugh and have a good time. He enjoyed being with family and friends.
George was preceded in death by his older sister, Shirley Mae Scott-Davis.
He leaves to cherish his memories with his brother-in-law, Earl Davis Jr. of Maryland; nephew, Brian Davis (Venita) of Maryland; niece, Adena McClendon (Anthony) of Maryland; cousin, Olivia Dowe (Paul Sr.); cousin, Janice Dowe (Paul Jr.); three great-nephews, two great-nieces and a host of cousins.
