Anne Gildea Barrett Sullivan, 77, hairdresser who was adored by coworkers and customers

CAROLINA SHORES — Anne Gildea Barrett Sullivan, 77, who loved to be called “Ba” by her grandchildren, departed her loving family Monday, April 5, 2021, after a lengthy battle with dementia.

Anne was born July 1, 1943, to the late Dorothea and John “Jack” Barrett in Danbury, Connecticut. She lived most of her life in Danbury, but also resided for many years in Port Charlotte, Florida, and most recently in Carolina Shores.

Anne was a loving wife of 60 years to Mark J. Sullivan Jr., who cared for her throughout her illness and was by her side up to the moment she departed this world. Anne was a beloved mother to Mark J. Sullivan (Susan) of New Milford, Connecticut, Lori Sullivan Beaulieu (Phil) of Danbury, Connecticut, and Erin Sullivan Caruso (John) of Hammonton, New Jersey. She was grandmother to Nicole Beaulieu Cole (James), Kyle Sullivan and Giovanni Caruso. She was great-grandmother to Jackson Beaulieu. She was recently preceded in death by her grandson, Justin Beaulieu. She gave her all to family and loved them with all her heart. She will be greatly missed.

Anne worked as a hairdresser for 50 years. Her career started at Grace’s House of Beauty followed by James of Ridgefield, both located in Ridgefield, Connecticut. After moving to Florida, she worked at Annette’s Beauty Salon and then Ruth’s Partners in Design. She was loved by her coworkers and customers for her humor and loyalty.

Anne is survived by her brother, Richard Barrett (Carryle); sister-in-law, Corinne Repp (Mike); many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and lifelong friends. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Marguerite Gilbert (Barrett), John Barrett and Peter Barrett.

The Sullivan family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the special registered nurse and nursing aide from Lower Cape Fear LifeCare Home Hospice and the staff of the SECU Hospice House of Brunswick for making Anne’s final time here on earth comfortable and her passing peaceful.

A funeral service will be held from noon to 1 p.m., Friday, April 30, at Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White St., Danbury, Connecticut. Burial will follow in St. Peter Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Anne’s name to Lower Cape Fear LifeCare, SECU Hospice House of Brunswick, 955 Mercy Lane SE, Bolivia, NC 28422.
