Cameron ‘Cammie’ Spotts Griffin, 91, dedicated math teacher and student mentor

WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH — Cameron “Cammie” Spotts Griffin, 91, died Monday, April 5, 2021.

Cammie was born Jan. 18, 1930, in Pulaski, Virginia, and spent her childhood in Salem, Virginia. She graduated (1952) from the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, where she met her husband of 60 years, Robert K. Griffin Jr., who preceded her in death in 2012.

Cammie was a dedicated math teacher and student mentor during her long teaching career in Pennsylvania and Delaware, before retiring to Wrightsville Beach in 1993. However, Cammie’s most important roles were that of wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Children are Cam Griffin of Wilmington, Ken Griffin (Becky) of Tampa, Florida, Gus Griffin (Marie Louise) of Playa Del Rey, California, and daughter, Helen Johnson (Eric), who preceded her in death in February 2021. She is also survived by her sister, Donnie Gilbert of Cleveland, Ohio; in addition to nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. A brother, Courtland Spotts, also preceded her in death.

Cammie was a member of St. Therese Catholic Church in Wrightsville Beach where, due to COVID-19 restrictions, a small, family-only funeral Mass will be held.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lower Cape Fear LifeCare Hospice, Dementia Program, Wilmington, or Good Shepard Center, Wilmington.
