Josephine Creech, 85, independent matriarch known for her generosity

SHALLOTTE — Josephine Creech, 85, passed away Sunday, March 14, 2021, at Brunswick Health and Rehabilitation, Ash.

Josephine was born Jan. 11, 1936, in Johnston County, daughter of the late Ernest Creech and Lena Godwin Creech. She grew up hard and raised her family on a cotton, tobacco and corn farm in Johnston County. She was always known as an independent, yet sweet and kind woman who would help anyone in need. Her family was very important to her as she loved spending time with them. She attended Full Life Fellowship Church.

Preceding her in death was her husband, James Floyd Mills; son, Timothy Mills; and lifelong partner, Joey Jennings.

Survivors include her two sons, Jimmy Mills, and his wife, Victoria, of Ash and Jerry Mills, and his wife, Sheri, of Shallotte; two brothers, Roger Creech, and his wife, Jessie, of Hampton and Donnie Creech, and his wife, Janice, of Hampton; seven grandchildren, Michelle, Jamie, Candace, Jesse, Julie, Kristy and Melissa; and 12 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, March 20, at Full Life Fellowship Church, Ash.
