CAROLINA BEACH — Richard Allen ‘Rat’ Taylor, 61, died Monday, March 1, 2021.

He was born April 16, 1959, in Wilmington.

He graduated from John T. Hoggard High School with the Class of 1977. After attending Western Carolina University, he obtained an electronics degree from Cape Fear Community College.

He had a long career in the installation and repair of fiber optics with SIECOR. He later became an independent contractor and the owner of Taylor Communications in Greensboro. His hobbies included handyman, interior remodeler, auto-mechanic, YouTube enthusiast and he enjoyed fishing.

He was always proud to have “fixed the unfixable.” Richard will be remembered for always lending an ear or a helping hand to those in need and never meeting a stranger.

Richard will be welcomed into heaven by his father, Robert Arnold Taylor; older brother, Robert A. “Bob” Taylor Jr.; and the love of his life, Cheryl Lowell.

He is survived by his mother, Florence Johnson Watson, and stepfather, Guy Watson, of Charlotte; brother, Albert Taylor, and his wife, Chelle, and their children, Alexandria and Jacob, all of Carolina Beach; stepbrother, Craig Watson, and his wife, Anna, of Cheraw, South Carolina, and their children, Kyle, Savannah, Mckenzie and Will. He Also leaves behind the daughter of his heart, Jessica Lowell Peake, and her husband, William Peake Jr., of High Point, and their children, C.J. and Gage.

Visitation will be held from 1 to 2 p.m., Friday, March 12, at Wilmington Funeral Chapel. A celebration of life ceremony will follow at 2 p.m. led by Certified Life Celebrant Linda Register. His urn will be buried in Oakdale Cemetery. Graveside committal will be held in Oakdale Cemetery following the service.
