
WILMINGTON — Allen James “Chip,” “Bippy” Ellis Jr. passed away Sunday, Feb. 21, 2021, at NHRMC. He celebrated his 72nd birthday Thursday, Jan. 28, with family prior to his passing.
He was born Jan. 28, 1949, in Ithaca, New York, to the late Allen James Ellis Sr. and Louise May Justice Ellis. He served with the U.S. Army in Vietnam. He loved fishing, going out on the boat, hanging out with friends and family at the beach. He enjoyed spending Friday nights at Slainte or by the fire. During his spare time, he enjoyed working out in the garage and just being home with his two dogs, Speed and Tessa.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Helen Ellis.
Chip is survived by his girlfriend, Janice Cottle; five children, Cheryl Ellis Shannon, James William “Billy” Aycock Jr., Crystal Ellis, Carrie Houston, and Terrie Garner Daniels, and her husband, Randy Daniels, all of Wilmington; six grandchildren, Jason Shannon, and his wife, Courtney Shannon, Charlee Aycock, Joshua Houston, Isabella Preacher, Elijah Preacher and Gracelyn Daniels (due in May); great-grandchildren, Kynlee Shannon and Carson Shannon; brother-in-law, Gene Blanton, and his wife, Carolyn of California; and many nieces and nephews, family and friends.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date and family and friends will share on social media.
