BURGAW — Shelia Peterson Thorpe, 69, passed away Sunday, Feb. 14, 2021, after battling a brief illness. Shelia was born July 19, 1951, in Wilmington, to the late Clarence James Peterson and Helen Riddle Peterson.
Shelia was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was devoted to her family and her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She left this earthly life to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was a member of Bible Baptist Church in Burgaw. She will be remembered for her loving spirit and her faith. She had the brightest smile, and whenever she was around, she made those around her smile too. Her smile would light up the darkest room; wherever she went, she brought pure joy to the people around her.
In addition to her parents, Shelia was preceded in death by her brother, Clarence Jefferson Peterson; sister-in-law, Cathy Craig Peterson; and sister, Margret Peterson Murphy.
Shelia is survived by husband, Woodus Edison Thorpe Jr.; son, Jeremy Thorpe, and his wife, Melissa Thorpe; granddaughter, Jennifer Jacobs, and her husband, Marcus Jacobs; grandchildren, Madison Thorpe, Gwendoyln Thorpe, Abby Thorpe, Abbott Thorpe, Julian Thorpe, Jeffery Brooks and Zachary Brooks; great-grandchildren, Jonah Jacobs and Kelela Jacobs; niece, Kathryn Hicks, and her husband, Mike Hicks; as well as a large extended family.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to noon, Wednesday, Feb. 17, at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Chapel, Burgaw. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 17, at Greenlawn Memorial Park, 1311 Shipyard Blvd., Wilmington, with Pastor Paul Couch officiating.
