Mary Etta Pelland, 94, retired from USPS after 22 years’ employment

CASTLE HAYNE — Mary Etta Pelland, 94, passed away Thursday, Oct. 29, 2020. She was born Oct. 14, 1926, in Jacksonville to Stephen B. Morton and Etta Conway Morton.

She was an active member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church for 65 years and loved working with the young children. She worked at Frank’s Neckwear and helped make cabinets in a cabinet shop in Wrightsboro. She retired from the USPS on July 31, 1989, after 22 years in the Wilmington area; in fact, she was the first woman carrier in Wilmington. No matter what she did, she always had love in her heart and a smile on her face.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward C. Pelland Jr.; 16 siblings; and one granddaughter.

She is survived by two sons, Martin Pelland, and his wife, Roberta, and Michael Pelland; six daughters, Joyce Lemon, Ann Tipton, Rosemary Watkins, and her husband, Steve, Suzette Keffer, and her husband, Ken, Margaret Raymer, and her husband, Greg, and Teresa Clark, and her husband, Jimmy; and 16 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.

A visitation, following all social distancing and mask guidelines, will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 7, at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church Sanctuary. A funeral service will follow visitation at 11 a.m. with Father Roger Nyimi officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
