Jay Joseph Loney Jr., 40, traveled the world in search of adventure

WILMINGTON — Jay Joseph Loney Jr., 40, died Saturday, Sept. 19, 2020. He was born in Wilmington to his parents, Kathleen Dalton and Jay Loney Sr. He was preceded in death by his mother.

Jay will be deeply missed by his son, Asher Jay Loney; stepson, Andrew Beilfuss; father, Jay Loney Sr., and his wife, Jackie; sisters, Sherry Little, and her husband, Robbie, and Jennifer Loney Walton; nephews and nieces, Sommer Avery, C.J. Avery, Daniel Avery, Madelyn Walton and Craig Walton; and countless dear friends.

Jay worked as an engineer for CSX railroad for nine years before going on to pursue his passion and opening his own flooring business. He enjoyed traveling the world, including Taiwan for his best friend’s wedding, scuba diving in Barbados and snowboarding in Whistler. Jay loved the salt water, whether tournament fishing, boating, wake boarding or even creating beautiful saltwater aquariums in his home.

He loved sports; growing up playing baseball, basketball and soccer. Jay enjoyed watching Duke basketball, listening to live music and hosting oyster roasts. He had the ability to make anyone laugh with his witty personality. Jay was an extremely hard worker but lived life to the fullest finding adventure anywhere.

Visitation will be held at 6 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 24, followed by a memorial at 7 p.m. at Grace Baptist Church, 1401 N. College Road, Wilmington.
