HAMPSTEAD — Margaret “Peggy” Sestak Nattrass, 87, passed away peacefully Saturday, June 20, 2020, at home surrounded by family. Originally from Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, she and her husband, Thomas “Tom,” were married June 28, 1952, and enjoyed more than 65 wonderful years of marriage prior to his passing in December 2017.
While originally from Pennsylvania, they were avid travelers and visited all 50 states, as well as much of Mexico and Canada, all except for Hawaii, by R.V. He was the driver and Peggy was the navigator. She never left town without her paper maps and Trip Tic from AAA; those were the days before navigation systems, cell phones and GPS. She always said she had the better sense of direction, until they were lost.
A mother of five, grandmother to 13 and great-grandmother to 11, family gatherings brought her joy and happiness. Pool and beach parties, family celebrations and commemorative events would find her pulling Tom onto the dance floor, regardless of whether it was a polka, the twist, the tango or a slow dance, they would show the “youngins” how to do it. She loved music and dancing. She delighted in dominoes, card games and any board game that challenged her mind and wit. Teaching the next generations gave her great pleasure when it came to table and board games.
While, as a couple, they found companionship, love and friendship within the Coastal Plantation community, following the passing of Tom, she found continued support, friendship and love within Coastal. At the young age of 85, she purchased a golf cart (a first) for not only transportation within the community, but so she could serve as a female chauffeur to neighbors. She delighted in decorating it for every holiday and occasion.
She passes on to all, a deep commitment to family, a love and zest for life, and a guiding compass from which our family generations may learn. May her guidance and love continue to be with us, and may we share her passion for family and life for generations to come.
Funeral arrangements to be announced at a later date. Donations may be made to the All Saints Catholic Church, Building Fund, Hampstead; Lower Cape Fear LifeCare, Hospice; or charity of the donor’s choice.
Share online condolences with the family at Andrews Mortuary & Crematory.
