Stewart Michael ‘Mike’ Hartley, 71, volunteered with the Seamen’s Center of Wilmington

Stewart Michael “Mike” Hartley

CASTLE HAYNE — Stewart Michael “Mike” Hartley, 71, went to be with his Lord and Savior Wednesday, June 10, 2020, at his home with the love of his family around him.

He was born March 25, 1949, to the late Robert Willis Hartley and Ada Ruth Russell Hartley.

Mike was a true man of great faith. He loved his family with complete love. He loved the Lord with all of his strength. He absolutely loved to fish. He was retired from the Virginia Department of Corrections, a place of respect for him and a part of him that touched his life; he touched the lives of many as well. He also volunteered with the Seamen’s Center of Wilmington at the port and enjoyed sharing God’s love and shining God’s light to those who came in from many different countries.

He was a member of Riley’s Creek Baptist Church in Rocky Point, and served in the Bread Ministry. Mike never did serve in the U.S. Armed Forces, but you will never find a more patriotic man in your life. Mike will be deeply missed by all, but his family knows they will see him again one day in heaven and are thankful for that promise.

He is survived by his loving wife of almost 46 years, Cheryl Hartley; sister, Patricia Lesniewicz (Tom) of Calabash, and her two sons, Chris and Chad; daughters, Patti Walker (Richard) of Louisa, Virginia, Crystal Sampson (Ben) of Castle Hayne; son, Bobby Hartley (Katie) of Jarvisburg; seven grandchildren, Christopher Hartley, Caleb Lloyd, and NovaLeigh Walker, Madison and Ezekiel Sampson and Emory and Esther Hartley; two uncles, Bill (Mary Lou) Hartley of Oceanside, California, Stewart (Kitty, deceased) of High Point; and aunt, Louise Hartley of Winston Salem; as well as many cousins.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making donations in memory of Mike Hartley to Riley’s Creek Baptist Church, Rocky Point Bread Ministry; Lower Cape Fear Hospice; or the Seamen’s Center of Wilmington.

Share online condolences with the family at Wilmington Funeral & Cremation.
