HAMPSTEAD — Edwin P. “Pierce” Massey, 62, formerly of Salisbury, Maryland, and Princess Anne, Maryland, passed away Monday, June 8, 2020, at his residence. Pierce was born, raised and spent most of his adult life on the Eastern Shore of Maryland.
He moved to Hampstead in 2016 to be near his family. Pierce enjoyed being on the water, whether for work or pleasure. He enjoyed the salt air. Pierce was many things to many people. To those who knew him best, he was a caring brother, a loving uncle, a doting great-uncle and an amazing friend. He would never hesitate to help anyone in a time of need.
He had a crazy desire to know how things worked. He would take things apart just to see if he could fix them. He loved to talk history and learning new things. Pierce was an avid reader and had an amazing green thumb. His knowledge of plants, especially roses, was vast.
He kept those who knew him smiling with his crazy jokes and always had some sort of crazy story to share. His laugh was contagious, and if you have heard it, you will never forget it. He loved animals of all kinds but had a special place in his heart for his cat, Smitty. His beard was long, his huge hands were like sandpaper and constantly scraped up, but he loved deeply. He will be missed tremendously by those who loved him.
The family wishes to express its deep appreciation to all of his neighbors and to those who befriended Pierce during his time in Hampstead. To his friends on the Eastern Shore of Maryland who came to visit him, he enjoyed your visits so very much. Pierce will be cremated according to his wishes, and his ashes will be scattered at sea in the Atlantic Ocean.
“Take my ashes down to sea, from once I came, I will forever be.”
