WILMINGTON — John Buck “Jack” Matheson, 91, passed away Wednesday, April 22, 2020, at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
Jack was born March 19, 1929, in New York to Cyril and Anne Buck Matheson. Jack was a proud veteran serving in the U.S. Marine Corps and U.S. Army. His career included working for the U.S. Postal Service, Phone Technician and Blue Cross Blue Shield.
Jack and Gloria enjoyed traveling, including many visits to Hawaii and one special trip to Ireland. Jack never met a stranger and had a gift of speaking and relating to other people no matter the topic of conversation. One of his favorite Bible verses was Philippians 1:3, “I thank my God every time I remember you.”
Jack is survived by his wife of 63 years, Gloria Swartz Matheson; special niece, Karen Fitzgerald; and other lifelong close friends.
