MATTHEWS — Elizabeth D. “Dickey” Pickerrell Spencer, 84, passed away Thursday, Nov. 28, 2019, at Levine Dickson Hospice House, Huntersville. Dickey was born April 7, 1935, in Wilmington, the daughter of the late Charles Dickey Pickerrell and Leola Coleman Pickerrell. She was married to the late Bobby Coyett Spencer.

Dickey was a retired teacher. She loved teaching and was very dedicated to the students she served over the years. Dickey loved music and enjoyed many years of singing in church choirs. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and she was very fond of her toy poodles, Pepper and Vicki. Dickey was known for her sense of humor. She will be missed and forever live in the hearts of those who knew her.

Dickey is survived by her son, Joseph Charles Spencer, and his wife, Judy, of Oak Island; daughter, Susan Spencer-Smith, and her husband, Bryan, of Charlotte; son, Robert Pickerrell Spencer, and his wife, Marianne, of Clarkesville, Tennessee; grandchildren, Cassidy, Cameron, Julia, Autumn, Ella and Zoey; great-grandchildren, Theodore and Cosette; and two sisters, Nancy Beskie of Wilmington and Becky Howard of Southport.

Memorial arrangements are being handled by Heritage Funeral Home, 3700 Forest Lawn Drive, Matthews. A memorial service, followed by a visitation, will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 7, at Matthews United Methodist Church, 801 Trade St., Matthews. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 8, at the Northwood Cemetery, 711 E. Longleaf Drive, Southport. Fellowship will immediately follow the graveside service at Southport Baptist Church, CMC Building, at 200 N. Howe St., Southport.
