BURGAW — On Wednesday, May 22, 2019, Terry Wayne Herring, 63, went to be with Jesus.

He was born Sept. 9, 1955, in Wilmington to Doris Fowler Herring and the late Robert Bruce Herring. Terry was also preceded in death by his brother, Robert Bruce “Butch” Herring Jr.

In addition to his mother, Terry is survived by his devoted and loving family, his wife of 39 years, Gina Newton Herring; son and daughter-in-law, Nicholas and Rebecca Herring, and their soon-to-be-born daughter, Madison; daughter and son-in-law, Kimberly and Jonathan Frierson, and their four children, Jace, Annabelle, James and Abigail; sisters, Kathy Mattox, and her husband, Joe, and Renee Parish, and her husband, David; and many extended family and friends, all who loved Terry.

A number of years ago Terry received the diagnosis of ALS, but that did not stop Terry from forging ahead in life, helping anyone in need and giving folks words of encouragement. His outlook on life was positive and his Christian spirit was an example to others. Terry made a difference in this world by the life he lived, and the lives he touched along the way.

He is remembered as an honorable man with a kind heart, determined spirit, zest for life and an enjoyable sense of humor. Most of all, Terry loved his family, who took such tender loving care of him during the progression of his illness. We thank God, our heavenly Father, for the gift of family and friends and pray His eternal blessings to all.

The family will receive friends 4 to 6 p.m., Saturday, May 25, at Quinn-McGowen Funeral Home, Burgaw. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, 26, at Herrings Chapel United Methodist Church, 1697 Herrings Chapel Road, Burgaw, with pastors William Hill Pearsall, Rick Russell and Rob Strickland conducting services. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
