HAMPSTEAD — On Monday, April 15, 2019, Joseph P. “Joe” Fazzari, 101, resting peacefully at home and surrounded by loving family, released his earthly bond. Blessed with a long, vibrant life, he was physically active, clear-minded, and, as recent photos bear witness, retained his youthful looks, good nature and mildly humorous outlook on life.
Born June 2, 1917, in Niagara Falls, New York, he grew up, married and raised his family in New Jersey and retired to New Mexico, North Carolina, and recently, Dallas, Georgia.
A World War II veteran and conscientious objector, he served his country as a food specialist on troop transport trains and military camps and held a special love for Idaho, where he participated in FDR’s New Deal CCC environmental work program during the Depression.
A self-taught upholster and seamster of drapes and slipcovers, he worked for well known NYC interior designers and was featured numerous times in House & Garden and House Beautiful magazines.
Joe will always be remembered by those who knew him as a kind and gentle man who valued truth in all matters, civility in all interactions and who believed in and lived by the Golden Rule — Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
Preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Helen, he is survived by seven children and their spouses, Andrew Fazzari (Jan), Laura Prumatico (Nick), Jo Ann Tomaselli (Kent), Mary Woo (Paul), Eileen Calle (Al), David Fazzari (Rebecca) and Paul Fazzari (Melinda). He was a loving grandfather of 12 grandchildren and their spouses, Andrew (Denise), Christina (Jeff), John Anthony, Maria (Joe), Jacqueline, Audra (Scott), Peter (Lee), Elisabeth (Rich), David (Danielle), Sarah (Eric), Alex and Katherine; and 12 great-grandchildren, Skyla, Emma, Aiden, Darcy, Andrea, Olivia, Sophia, Emerson, Devere, Margot, Nova and Cayde.
The family will hold a private memorial service and request, in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to a charity of your choice.
Also, when enjoying your next cup of coffee, raise a toast to Joe who counted Dunkin’ Donuts as one of the keys to a long and happy life — given his age, we trust he knew what he was talking about!
Roy Davis Funeral Home, Austell, Georgia, is in charge of arrangements.
