SOUTHPORT — Larry Ray Long, 81, passed away peacefully at his home Wednesday, March 6, 2019.
Mr. Long was born Jan. 12, 1938, in Durham to the late Raymond and Latefa Long. He was a 10-year veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard, and a career truck driver. Larry loved Duke basketball and the Carolina Panthers. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, friend and for his love of animals.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Judy Long; three sons, Jeffrey Long, and his partner, Esther Baumgardner, of Southport, Joshua Long of Folkston, Georgia, and Jeremy Long of Wilmington; five daughters, Julie Long of Baldwin, Florida, Catherine Young, and her husband, Bryan, of Orange Park, Florida, Lesa Long of Corpus Christi, Texas, Brittany Long and Partner Patrick Sharkey of Southport and Makayla Patrick of Southport; brother, Charles Long of Southport; and 14 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m., Saturday, March 9, at Peacock-Newnam & White Funeral Home Chapel.
