
WILMINGTON — Nancy Smith Rose, 98, died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2019, at her home.
She was born April 25, 1920, in Wilmington to the late Lansing Burrows Smith and Nettie Fleming Smith.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence C. Rose; sister, Jean Smith Holman; and brother, Joseph Lansing Smith.
She is survived by her son, retired U.S. Army Col. Lawrence C. Rose, (Sue); daughter, Nancy Rose Vance (Victor); grandchildren, Samuel Bayless Vance, Mary Lawrence Vance Sadler and Ryan and Kyle Colburn; two great-grandchildren, Eliza Grier Sadler and Jane Bayless (“Scout”) Sadler; and many nieces and nephews.
She graduated from Woman’s College, now UNC-Greensboro, in 1941. She was a longtime member of St. Andrews Covenant-Presbyterian Church, Cape Fear Country Club and the Carolina Yacht Club.
The family would like to say a special thank you to Nancy’s team of loving caregivers, particularly Donna, Wanda and Kathy.
A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, Feb. 4, at Andrews Market Street Chapel. Private graveside services will be held in Oakdale Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, bequests in her name may be made to the UNC-G School of Education.
