WILMINGTON — Doris Byrum Spivey, 92, went to be with her Lord Friday, Dec. 28, 2018, at Morningside of Wilmington. She has now been reunited with her beloved husband of 69 years, Gene, who went to be with his Lord May 25, 2015.
Doris was born June 13, 1926, in Greenville. She was the daughter of the late Ernest Raymond Byrum and the late Leona Doughty Byrum Tripp. She was preceded in death by her son, Keith William Spivey; brothers, Ernest Raymond Byrum Jr. and Vernon Bradford Byrum; and sisters, Mildred Byrum Whitmus, Marjorie Byrum Hardee and Lois Byrum Bullock.
She was an active member of Pine Valley United Methodist Church; a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother; and an avid bridge player and golfer.
She is survived by her sons, Douglas Eugene Spivey of Riegelwood, and his wife, Jane, Ernest Wayne Spivey of Wilmington, and his wife, Teresa, and Darrell Glenn Spivey of Cape Coral, Florida, and his wife, Donna; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; loving sister, Ernestine “Tina” Byrum Shackelford of Virginia Beach; one brother, Daniel Byrum, and his wife, Elizabeth, of Greenville; and two sisters-in-law, Dorothy English and Mildred Grossack, both of Wilmington.
A visitation will be held from 2 to 3 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2019, at Greenlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum, 1311 Shipyard Blvd., Wilmington. A funeral service will follow at 3 p.m. in the mausoleum.
